The downstairs Gastropub has been designed with an idea to capture the maritime atmosphere associated with the Marsden Grotto.
Tastefully decorated with the icons of the mysterious and vivid past of pirates and smugglers, it will capture the imagination of children of any age.
It is the ideal spot for families to visit and leads right onto the beach, so cautious parents can sit outside on the deck with a drink while the kids play safely in view.

With an emphasis on fresh local produce, especially fresh fish, the Gastropub offers a wide variety of superbly prepared meals. Little can compare to hand battered fish which has been caught the same morning by a local fisherman, add a few perfectly cooked golden brown chips and you’ll pity the sailor’s of yesteryear who would have had to do without.

The idea behind the downstairs menu is simply to offer the best quality of relaxing food with that extra culinary flare which lifts it above the usual.
From the well balanced flavours of inventive salads to both light and naughty desserts, you may just be glad there’s a lift to carry you to the top.
Of course, no smuggler would hang his eye-patch on the door unless the bar were stocked to his high standard. There is wide range of white wines to compliment the variety of sea food, as well as a selection of expertly chosen reds to compliment other dishes, or just to sit and sip.

Of course, no smuggler’s den would be complete without the finest selection of ales. The Grotto was once the premises of the famous Vaux Breweries, and a long tradition of fine ales endures. A full compliment of lagers and bottled beers for something a little lighter, and you might even find swig of rum.
